Care & planting of seedlingsHow are Shand Greenhouse seedlings prepared?Shand Greenhouse container seedlings are unique. The potting medium remains attached to the roots throughout shipping and handling, reducing transplant shock and giving your seedlings a good start. Seedlings are grown in reusable styrofoam containers. As the roots grow out of the bottom of their containers, exposure to air causes natural pruning. At harvest time, seedlings are pulled from their containers. By this time, the roots have bound the potting medium into a semi-solid plug. The seedlings are bundled into groups of five or 10 and the root plugs are wrapped in plastic. The wrapped seedlings are boxed and stored in freezers over the winter. In the spring, the dormant seedlings are shipped to distribution points across the province. |
